Expose Your Smile
Gingivitis, as well as its more advanced state, periodontitis, has a large negative impact on gums. When gingivitis progresses, bacteria and plaque buildup. This can cause the gums to stretch and result in large pockets that can be cleaned out but will remain along the gum line. These pockets will then cause the gums to recede which can look unpleasant. Also, when the gums recede an unusual amount of tooth is exposed.
Gum grafting can repair your gums to their healthy natural state. Soft gum tissue from the roof of the mouth is used to graft the gums. The graft should cover the exposed tooth and root surfaces. This will then hopefully promote new tissue growth and allow the gums to return to their original position around the teeth. Gum grafting is a normal procedure that has a minimal amount of downtime and discomfort.
