Before Anesthesia

Before a patient undergoes anesthesia, there are a few things they should be aware of.  The first thing is that 8 hours prior to your surgery, you should not eat or drink anything.  You should also not smoke 12 hours prior to your surgery.  You should bring someone with you to your procedure who will be able to drive you home afterwards.  Do not wear any jewelry, contact lenses or dentures the day of your surgery.  Make sure you talk to your dentist about any medications your take regularly prior to your surgery to make sure they are approved.  Outside of these few things, there isn’t anything else you need to know or do prior to your procedure.
