Bone Grafting

Bone grafting is a procedure that is used to build up the jawbone to more easily fit a dental implant or other restorative device.  This is a procedure that is routinely done and used for dental implants and other periodontal procedures.  The bone used in a graft is a sample taken directly from the patient.  Often enough, the bone is taken from a different area of the mouth when the drilling occurs.  Bone fragments will be suctioned from the mouth that will then be used for the graft.  In certain instances, cadaver bone fragments are also used.  These fragments are harvested by bone banks and are completely safe to use for bone donation.
