Mouth Guards

And important piece of equipment every athlete that plays contact sports should have is a mouth guard.

They should be used for anyone who plays:

  • Football
  • Hockey
  • Lacrosse
  • Wrestling
  • Basketball
  • Baseball/Softball
  • Soccer
  • Or any sport where contact is probable

A mouth guard can help prevent structural damage to your jaw as well as your teeth.  It can also reduce the chance of lacerations to your lips, tongue and cheeks.  They also reduce the chance of sustaining a concussion.

Mouth guards are typically sold in sporting goods stores, though caution should be used when buying a typical mouth guard from a sporting goods store.  These types of mouth guards won’t give you the highest level of protection and can be uncomfortable, or not fit correctly.

The best level of comfort and protection comes from a custom mouth guard.  They are created specifically to protect your unique set of teeth.  They are made from a thin yet durable plastic that is hardened to protect your teeth.  Custom mouth guards will give athletes an easier time breathing and communicating.

Contact your dentist if you think you could benefit from a custom mouth guard and keep you performing at your best.
